Random word generator
Pick words or sentences and how many, and copy the list. Words can be any kind or only nouns, verbs, adjectives or adverbs, drawn from 160 common English words; sentences are built from the same words in simple patterns, for example "A quiet lantern drifts slowly across the golden harbor."

How it works
- Words: each word is picked at random from the list for the kind you chose (60 nouns, 40 verbs, 40 adjectives, 20 adverbs; "Any" uses all 160). Every pick is independent, so a word can come up more than once in a long list.
- Sentences: each sentence follows one of three simple patterns, such as article + adjective + noun + verb + adverb + place, filled with random words from the lists. The sentences are grammatical but usually make little sense: they are meant for writing prompts, typing practice and placeholder text, not as real content.
- The word lists and patterns were written for this site. Everything runs in your browser; "New set" draws again with the same settings.
Ideas for using random words
- Writing prompts: draw three nouns and build a story or a sketch around them.
- Word games and teaching: pick only verbs or adjectives to practise parts of speech.
- Placeholder text: random English sentences show how a layout reads with real words; for classic filler, use the Lorem Ipsum generator.
- Typing practice: paste a set of sentences and time yourself, or take the typing speed test.
